Description The posterior localization of oskar protein in the posterior pole of drosophila embryos is requested to direct the deployment of nanos, the posterior body patterning morphogen in Drosophila. The regulation mechanism involves translation repression of oskar mRNA prior to its localization at the posterior pole of the oocyte. Translation repression is mediated by the ovarian protein bruno that binds specifically to a cis-acting element located in the the 3’UTR of the oskar mRNA made by a tandem repetition of a 10 nt long consensus sequence.
